6 FREE OPEN- SOURCE SOFTWARES


1. Mozilla Firefox

The best free web-browser from mozilla, is called Firefox, it's simple to use has so many plugins to customize it and is also known as the safest browser known to Mankind. For most people anything that doest have a microsoft tag is good enough excuse to switch. Whatever your reason, It's worth making default web browser. The best part is that it works as well with the Mac as it works with the PC.

This is also a free and powerful alternative to Winzip, to be honest it could get better.It works like a charm and moreover it does it's job efficiently i.e Unzipping files , extracting files etc...
Recommended as a download and worth keeping as default Archive manager for windows xp/vista/all



3. Vlc Media player

Its is arguably the only media player that plays almost any format. It also plays subtitles very efficiently and easily. For those of you who have already hooked on to firefox, there's a vlc media plugin available , Life just got Richer.

Handbrake is also free to download and use (Check terms and conditions), For all of you that wanted to make copies of your original Dvd and keep a copy, Handbrake allows you to do just that and best of all you can choose which format you want to burn your dvd in.
Recommended for Film Buff's.

This is a replacement for those who cant afford to buy Microsoft Word, Powerpoint i.e Mirosoft Office. Personaly i think this is less resource hungry compared to the previous versions of Office and moreover its as easy to use. Office for FREE!

IMGBURN

Imgburn is arguably the best dvd burning software , its free and it works well if you use Handbrake to rip your dvd files, then use IMG burn to burn it to a disk, it's a powerfull and free alternative for those who want to burn image files i.e ISO,DMG etc...
